An area rug printed with a timber floor, board by board, from pale driftwood through to charred black. It lays the look of a plank floor over whatever is underneath, which is the point in a rented room or over tile you would rather not look at.

Choosing
The pale end runs Driftwood Grey, Sea Grey, Weathered Ash and Golden Pine. The mid tones are Honey Oak, Knotted Oak, Sawn Timber, Warm Chestnut and Cognac Oak. Going dark: Aged Oak, Dark Walnut, Chocolate Board and Charred Black. Red Mahogany is the one with real colour in it, and Reclaimed Mix and Patchwork Pine mix boards of different tones rather than matching them.
Choosing a size
40 x 60cm and 50 x 80cm are doorway and bedside pieces. 100 x 150cm sits under a coffee table. 120 x 160cm is large enough to put the front feet of a sofa on, which is what stops a rug from looking marooned.
Care
Vacuum on a low setting. Blot spills rather than rubbing them into the print. Keep it out of direct sun, which fades a printed pale board first and unevenly.
