Description

Small bamboo discs threaded together into a flexible pad, so it takes the shape of whatever sits on it and rolls up to put away. It goes under a casserole, a hot pan or a teapot and keeps the heat off the table, and the pale unstained bamboo brings a bit of natural texture to a laid setting. A simple, quiet Lumen & Loam piece for everyday cooking and eating.

The discs are natural bamboo, unstained, held on a cord that lets the pad flex. Because it is flexible it lies flat under an uneven base rather than rocking, and it grips a smooth table instead of sliding along with the dish. The surface wipes clean. It is made to take a dish straight off the heat, which is the point of a trivet rather than a decorative mat.

Choose small, medium, or a set of two for a table where more than one hot dish lands at once. Keep one on the table and one beside the hob for a pan straight off the heat, or under a kettle or a teapot. Wipe with a damp cloth and dry it. Do not soak it or put it in a dishwasher: bamboo swells, and the cord that holds the discs together is what gives out first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which size should I choose?

The small suits a teapot, a kettle or a saucepan, and the medium takes a casserole or a large pan. The set of two is handy for a table where more than one hot dish lands at once.

Can it really take a pan straight from the hob?

Yes, it is made for exactly that. Bamboo handles the heat of a hot pan or dish and keeps it off the table surface underneath.

Will it slide around?

No, the flexible pad grips a smooth table and the dish stays put on top of it. It also settles flat under an uneven base rather than rocking.

What is it made from?

Small discs of natural, unstained bamboo threaded together on a cord. The cord is what lets the pad flex and roll up for storage.

How do I clean it?

Wipe it with a damp cloth and dry it. Keep it out of the sink and the dishwasher, and the discs and cord stay tight for years of use.
