Solid black walnut, a magnetic mount and no wiring at all: this reading lamp goes up where you need it and comes down just as easily. The timber grain keeps it warm against plain walls, and the slim head swings out of the way when it is not in use. Lumen & Loam recommends it for renters and anyone who does not want to cut into plaster for a bedside light.

The head rotates a full 360 degrees, so light can be aimed at a book, a mirror or a wall wash without moving the lamp. It charges over Type-C and runs wireless off its internal battery, drawing 0-5W, with a remote for switching and dimming. Three color settings are included, with the natural white option covering 3500-5500K. The magnetic base lets you lift the lamp off its plate and carry it where it is needed.

Choose a single pack for one bedside or a two pack to match both sides of a bed. Mount the plate, snap on the lamp and charge it when the battery runs low; there is no electrician and no socket involved. Wipe the walnut with a dry cloth and avoid soaking it. It works beside a bed, above a bathroom vanity mirror, or on a shelf as directional task light.
