Wooden Slat Lantern Kit

A teardrop lantern built from curved wooden slats that slot together around a central ring. It arrives flat as a set of pieces and you assemble it yourself, which is rather the point: it packs small and goes together in a few minutes with no glue and no tools.

Lit from inside, the gaps between the slats throw a striped pattern up the nearest wall.

Where to put it

A hearth, a side table, a covered porch, or a patio table on a still evening. Wood and open flame are a poor mix in a breeze, so use a battery tealight outdoors.

Assembly

The slats push into the rings by hand. Work round the frame a little at a time rather than forcing one piece fully home, which is how thin wood splits.
