Wooden Slat Lantern Kit

A teardrop lantern built from curved wooden slats that slot together around a central ring. Lit from inside, the gaps throw a striped pattern up the nearest wall, which is more of an effect than a single candle usually manages. It arrives flat and you assemble it yourself, and that is rather the point: it packs small and looks handmade once standing. A sculptural piece from Lumen & Loam.

The slats are laser cut and left unfinished, so the wood tone is bare and takes a wax or a stain if you want one. Assembly is by hand, with no glue and no tools: the slats push into the rings, and you work around the frame a little at a time rather than forcing one piece fully home. A candle is not included, and an LED tealight is the sensible choice inside a wooden frame.

Choose small, medium or large, or all three together as a set, which is how the shape looks best. Put it on a hearth, a side table, a covered porch, or a patio table on a still evening. Wood and open flame are a poor mix in a breeze, so use a battery tealight outdoors. Never leave a burning candle unattended; keep away from flammable materials.
